The Cresent family believes that a healthy environment is a critical component to ensure success for future generations. We support the responsible management of forests and understand the importance of a thriving diverse environment. To that end, Cresent is a founding member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council, a non-profit industry association organized to promote sustainable practices among manufacturers, retailers, and consumers alike.

Wood Resources
Recognizing the negative impact that careless and illegal logging can have on the local and global environment, Cresent has made many efforts to balance the legitimate economic use of forest resources--one of the Earth's most renewable resources when properly managed--with the need to ensure the clean water, clean air, and robust biodiversity that these resources support.   These efforts include:

  • The use in our Cresent Classics and Murray Hill collections of American hardwoods harvested from the Appalachian Mountain region of the United States by wood vendors that meet strict local, state and national standards for forest management. Since 1977, the tree population of the Appalachian forests has grown each year through a combination of sustainable management practices and thoughtful long term planning by the industry.  For more information, please visit
  • In our Moderne, Moderne Loft, and Berry Hill collections, using only solid plantation-grown Mahogany, cultivated locally on the island of Java in Indonesia near our production facility.   These plantations have existed for many years and are carefully managed, providing an important economic activity that offers opportunities for villagers that do not involve destroying existing primary forests cropland conversion, grazing, or timber harvesting.
  • Specifying locally raised plantation rubber wood for our interior parts (such as drawer sides and backs).  This wood, a byproduct of the latex industry, would be burned, emitting noxious smoke similar to burning tires if we did not recycle it into our furniture.

Minimizing Other Impacts
The Cresent family works to minimize our daily impact on the environment. All of our furniture cartons contain a minimum of 20% postconsumer recycled content and are printed using soy or vegetable based inks.  We recycle all of our inbound packaging waste in our distribution center and our offices have an active recycling program for office waste as well as a commitment to a tree-free approach to documents, where applicable.  All of our catalogs and marketing materials specify FSC certified papers and soy or vegetable inks.

Triple Bottom Line
The Cresent family firmly supports the triple bottom line of People, Planet, Profits.  Each of these performance metrics coexist as priorities for Cresent and we believe in the merits of each.
